Village interventions.

Masterplan for urban addenda.
Three architecture firms teamed up to design a masterplan renewal for the city of Machelen. This place has a particular context near the capital of Brussels. Constricted between large infrastructure sites such as Zaventem Airport and major access roads, the center really radiates a small scale village atmosphere.
In this urban fabric, the developer Matexi realised a masterplan by the hand of HUB, 360 and BULK Architects. A series of horseshoe and impasse typologies are fit in the existing scenery. The courtyard buildings contribute to the urban streetscape by opening up the facade of a building block. By granting views from the sidewalk and providing passageways to make the urban landscape fordable, this masterplan creates more dynamic and tries to enhance social encounters in the village.
